Hydrangeas are classic flowering shrubs loved for their lush foliage and generous clusters of blooms that appear in spring and continue through the warmer months. Their large, rounded flower heads create an elegant, full look in the garden, ranging in colours from soft pinks and blues to striking purples and whites depending on the variety. With their naturally full, shrub-like shape, hydrangeas are perfect for brightening shaded garden beds, adding softness to cottage-style plantings, or creating standout potted displays on patios and verandahs. Their long-lasting flowers also make beautiful cut blooms for indoor arrangements, bringing their charm inside the home.
Summer
Grows best in part shade, dabbled light receiving morning sun and protection from the harsh afternoon heat. Will not tolerate full sun. Prefers rich, well-drained soil improved with compost or organic matter. Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during warmer months, avoiding waterlogging. Feed in spring and again in mid-summer with a slow-release fertiliser to support strong flowering. Prune lightly after flowering to maintain shape and remove spent blooms. Mulching around the base helps retain moisture and keeps roots cool through summer
